What Actually Makes a Good Podcast?
Advice From Someone Who Used to Hate Podcasts

Like many people, when I first started listening to podcasts, it was far from enjoyable. Now, I will admit I actually started listening to talk radio, which is a bit different from podcasts but still similar enough that they coloured my perception of podcasts as well. You want me to listen to people talking in a room? How boring. No thank you.
The first radio show I listened to was a sports network with an ex-partner of mine. During hockey season I suffered immensely. We constantly fought over who was in charge of the radio while driving places.
Eventually, I took a podcast writing class at university because it fit with my class schedule. Right before the class started, I had to research different ones to understand the genre better.
I was so wrong. I thought I hated podcasts, but it turns out — I just hated the bad ones. All this time I had a misconception about podcasts and radio shows. Now, I love them.
Why didn’t I like podcasts before? Well, the first issue was that I was listening to topics I had zero interest in. (Sorry Vancouver Canucks, but I don’t like to hear about your stats and trade deals okay?!) That was my own fault.
