A Side Effect of Getting an IUD that No One Discusses

First off, I’m not here to paint a pretty picture for you. It’s annoying, but we need to talk about it. Last week, I woke up with another case of Bacterial Vaginosis. This is the fourth time in the last year, and I didn’t know why until recently. My doctor didn’t warn me this would happen, so I had to do my own research. Now, I’m sharing my experience to help other women who may be suffering the same thing.

I have my IUD for a year now, and I’ve had Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) as well as Yeast infections several times since I got it. If you don’t know what BV is, it’s a condition where an excess of a certain bacteria causes problems with your vagina. The list of symptoms include:

  • An excess thick, white discharge
  • Itching around the vagina
  • Burning while peeing
  • Vaginal irritation

BV is also more common than a yeast infection even though it has similar symptoms and a different treatment. Instead of a simple over-the-counter pill, you have to get a prescription of antibiotics and take them for a week.

No one told me about this when I got my IUD. Quite frankly, I’m appalled. How can…
